The end of September 2012 marked the end of a successful first full month with new Interim Head of School Lila B. Lohr. “SPSG is the kind of place where everybody knows everybody and really cares about each student,” said Lohr. “A lot of schools talk that talk, but I think we really walk that walk.”
The tenth grade class went into InnerQuest unsure, and came back with a whole new perspective on InnerQuest, themselves, and their classmates. InnerQuest is an educational organization that tests not only the ability to work with others as a team, but it also tests the inner strength and determination of an individual. The Xs left for InnerQuest on Sept. 19 and returned Sept. 21. InnerQuest is located in Knoxville, MD, not far from Harper’s Ferry.
On October 3, the fifth and twelfth grade buddies got together in the Commons for lunch to plan their costumes for the annual Halloween Parade. “Each group comes up with a theme and their costumes will reflect that theme,” said Lisa Wetzel, the fifth grade dean.
Michelle Stoll, the new upper school English teacher, was inspired to become a teacher by her father, who taught elementary school for 37 years.
Maki Okamoto, the new Japanese teacher, came to America in 2010 from Hiroshima, Japan. She loves it here in America but is still adjusting to life here in Baltimore.
Students from both SP and SPSG worked together to present the satirical musical Urinetown on Nov. 2-3 and 8-9. The play was directed by Christina Kemmerer. The musical is a satire about greed and social class, as people in the not-too-distant future compete over scarce resources.
